Summer House

Summer House is a South African, multi-disciplinary design studio. Their team, which consists of illustrators, artists, photographers and designers, focuses on continuous experimentatMehrion with concepts and materials, creating innovative design products such as furniture, print and wallpaper. Their wallpaper designs are colourful, subtle, present and personal, all at the same time but still genuine and modern as a whole.

Flora

For the new Flora collection, the Summer House team have found inspiration in the way the natural world has been depicted throughout time. How certain forms look completely different when created by different artists, in different eras and often in different styles. Summer House did research from the late 1800’s all the way to present day and cherry picked their favourite depictions of certain forms. Then the designers at Summer House set out to reimagine the depictions in their own way, meticulously drawing by hand either with pencil or oils, or sourcing from various public domain portals and cropping, adjusting and recreating to bring their vision to life.

The design studio also spent a lot of time working on scale. Often classic designs are created in smaller repeats, and the designers at Summer House wanted their scale to be larger where possible, creating more of a mural but without losing the beauty of the feeling of times gone by. Colourways were chosen to match the seasons. Carefully selected, each hoping to create a feeling of nostalgia. The designs in the Flora collection are soft, they want to blend into your interior seamlessly, they don’t need to steal the show. When you are surrounded by one of the designs in the Flora collection, the Summer House team want it to feel calming and bring you and your loved ones joy.
